Look at the toy of the monster where these are cool!

Japanese toys. They’re commonly small, blind-packed (which makes them “collectible”) and bizarre in the eyes of most Americans.

I recently purchased these four figures in a blind pack from a vendor in Japan. It’s a small set made by TOMY. I’m not sure how old it is, and i’m not even sure what these characters are. Careful though. The toys depicted on the package are different than the ones i got upon opening the box (the ones in the box were actually better).

The only thing written in English that can be considered a description of these B-list creatures is something i found written on a label: “Daiei Tokusatsu Series 2 Soda Pop Candy.” That’s no help to me.

To spice things up, maybe I can use the Masters of the Universe naming conventions to describe these guys.

First we have, Bould-Ear-Dashthe furry, rock-headed ear doctor (notice his otoscope)

Next we have Duk-N-Cuvr (or Quaktor) – a cross-dressing duck warrior

And here we have Crumblorthe gingerbread samurai warrior

Lastly, we have Cumulosa reptilian bird man (Stratos’ evil brother most likely)

Yeehaw! Ride ‘em cowboy!

Several years ago I was strolling through a Revco Drug store (which has since become CVS), and I dropped by the toy section (as we all do in any store that has one).

That’s where I found this little, energetic guy.
He seems pretty uninteresting at first glance…

Maybe even at second glance…

But it’s not until you see him in motion that you discover his hidden talent.

He’s made by “Playmotions: Amazing Animatronics.”
And for all of those who still don’t get it, the horse’s head is coming out of his pants

Weird indeed.

You got some big-ass lips!

So… I’ve been debating what my first toy submission should be, and that got me thinking. What are the elements that make a good, weird toy.

Huge Lips? Check.
Drool? Check.
Red Cape? Check.
Power Ring? Check.
Yellow Eyeliner? Check.

Seems like a good combo. I’ll let you be the judge.

I honestly have no clue what this toy is. At first glance, it’s Garbage Pail Kids-ish, but I already know it’s not related. It also looks like it might’ve been some kind of bubble gum tie-in or something… you know, with the lips and drool and all.

The only clues I have are “Skilcraft © 1987” imprinted on his back, and “GOG” imprinted on his back pocket.

Does anyone have any idea what this thing is or know of any way I can can my hands on more toys like this?

Ugly… in a good way.

So, as you can see, this is the future home of random toys I’ve found over the years. I’m not sure what I’m expecting from this blog. I’ve always been fascinated by funny, goofy, neat and just plain ugly toys. I know there are other folks out there like me, so I’m taking this opportunity to share.

Keep an eye out….
